The Mountain Views

Ouray (pronounced oo ray) is situated between the San Juan Mountain range in southwest Colorado. The town sits low and the mountains consume the sky. When I went to Ouray, I was stunned by the beauty of being completely surrounded by mountains. I went last winter, so there was snow covering every tree, mountain top, and building and all I have to say is… name a better duo than snow and mountains.

 The Million Dollar Highway

The Million Dollar Highway is a stretch of road through the San Juan Mountains that takes you between Ouray, Silverton, and Telluride. I will admit that it was the scariest drive of my life because the roads were small and quite literally on the side of the mountain. However, if you get past the initial fear, it will be a sight you have never seen before. If you want a taste of the drive, click here or watch the TikTok attached 🙂

The People

Ouray’s main street is lined with restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and unique stores. Again, I went in the wintertime, which is typically a slower season for most destinations. I was also there on a weekday, so there were not tons of people lined up on Main Street. The locals that I met in my short time in Ouray warmed my heart. Multiple people struck up random conversations and it honestly felt like we were back in the Midwest. We met a local dog that was sitting outside a coffee shop alone. I was concerned thinking she had been left, but then the owner came out bright and bubbly and said “Oh, hi! I see you’ve met Eileen.” It was evident that Ouray was a safe and trustworthy. We also went to Ouray Brewery for lunch and after striking up a conversation with a local man sitting at the bar, he gave us Tootsie Rolls for the road!

The Airbnb I Stayed In

From the exploring we did in town, it seemed like the lodging options were all beautiful. This was a last-minute trip for us, so we booked an Airbnb, and it turned out to be my favorite part of Ouray. I am a sucker for nice Airbnbs, lodges, hotels, and cabins, so the cabin we had made me incredibly happy. It was through River Run Cabins and it was a fantastic deal. It was heated, we had the whole resort to ourselves, there were two outdoor hot tubs for the cabins, and it was only $99 for the night! I wish I could describe to you all how amazing it is, but the pictures I am attaching will speak louder than words. I would love to hear if any of my reader’s have ever been to Ouray or plan to go after being introduced to the beauty! As always, if you go, respect the local people, protect the nature, and have a great time! Do not forget to follow me on Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok! They are all linked on my website 🙂
